She was my best friend

I opened my big mouth, down I went
My brow lowered but she was older
I let her win, at least that's what I told her

A chance to go find some mud and play
Together we'd pray to God
On our way to the swamp to throw rocks

I’m so glad you’re here now. Tell me how was your flight?
I could make some coffee, or should we say goodnight.
Tomorrow nice and early to the lake poles in hand.
Or we could walk the river, maybe we don’t need no plan
Fake smiles are hard to bend especially for friends
Is life killing you? Tell me about your zoo
And we’ll cry away some blues
So now tell me what you want for lunch.
We could head to the creek I bet we’d catch us a bunch.
My job? Well it’s going. It seems to pay the bills.
Imagination wanders. My dreams flicker still.
Tell how’s your brother. I heard he took a nasty fall.
Luck is not his number. A lesson to us all.

Below is an email I sent to friends of mine regarding my “first gig” in support of Peel Back The Sun.
First of all, thank you so much for your prayers. God was certainly
present as He blessed the evening.
Some of the highlights:
For some reason my guitar decided not to stay in tune for the song
Battle. I actually stopped once to retune, thought I had it but it went
out again. After the song, as I was retuning, I heard one boy murmur,
"I knew it was the B string."
At another point I accidentally stepped on my guitar chord and pulled
it out of the jack. I forgot what I said but everyone started
laughing (in a good way), I then asked a young boy where I left off.
As he stared at me like a deer caught in headlights another girl spoke
up and was able to recite the last few lyrics I sang before the chord
debacle! That was precious!
I was telling a story where I referenced a job I once had driving a
forklift. I then went on to say, "One night as I was driving home
from a friend's house..." Well a few of the kids got a little lost
and was basically picturing me driving down I94 in a forklift. Once
again, we all had a good chuckle.
I bring up these "highlights" because with any live performance you
don't know what is going to happen and as long as you role with it
and have fun these are the things that make the evening fun and
memorable. Thank you Lord for "highlights"
As for the performance side of things:
I felt very confident in the music. I spent a fair amount of time
preparing the songs and God blessed me with a strong healthy voice
for the evening. Thank you Lord!
The speaking part of the evening had me a little nervous. I actually
didn't want to prepare too much in fear that it might become rigid and
robotic. Most of my material came from stories and thoughts and
experiences that I've already shared many times. I knew I just
needed to get up there, be a real person and simply talk to these
kids. As I was going over my notes minutes before I was to go on I
stopped, quieted my spirit, and gave it all to God. Luckily, through
God's grace I was able to articulate well, get to the point, and move
on in a very casual, conversational way. Once again, thank you
Lord!

prayers!!!
